30 days Yaoi challenge

Day 6 - The reason you love yaoi.

Ok… For this question, let’s go back in time.

Some years ago, I was writing some stuff for a Mitsuru Adachi-centered website. No relation between Adachi and BL, but after writing summary for each 34 vol. of H2, 13 vol. of Cross Game and others (+ character presentation), I wanted to read something with less volumes (possibly one-shot) and where characters sleep together. I mean, romance is nice but after 34 vol. with nothing more than a kiss, I seriously needed a manga with more action.
So, the reason why I started (and loved) BL : mostly one-shot or one volume title + characters who sleep together.

Now, why yaoi among all others manga category ? Simply, I generally dislike girls in shojo manga and how some mangaka pictures woman (while I have no problem with boys acting stupid in BL as I take it as a fantasy), I got tired of boys living their BIG adventure and of men who need to save the world, I dislike too realist manga dealing with sociey problem but I like kind of realistic stories. So, from what I tried, BL fits the best to what I wanted to read. Also, considering the protagonist’s age, I can relate more easily to BL’s chara problems than to the difficulties people from shojo/shonen/seinen have to face.

But why am I so in love with BL (to the point that I nearly read only BL) ? I guess it’s thanks to the diversity. Depending my mood, I can read cute, funny, hot or serious stories, set in a realistic place or in a fantasy world, interesting and profund chara or totally fantaisist ones. Not only the elements I wanted to read in a manga are integrated in BL, but on the more, the diversity is enough to fill all my manga needs.

And now, end of this self-centered post in bad english. XD
